Job Summary
Requirements:
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Artisan qualification is an advantage
- Minimum 1-2 years’ experience – Needs to display an engineering aptitude
- Experience with pressurised Packaging Machines
- Experience in a food & packaging manufacturing plant
Key Performance Areas:
- Preventative Maintenance: Conduct scheduled maintenance on mechanical equipment to ensure continuous and efficient operation.
- Breakdown Repairs: Diagnose and repair mechanical faults to minimize production downtime.
- Equipment Installation and Upgrades: Assist in the installation, modification, and upgrading of machinery and equipment as required.
- Compliance with Safety Standards: Ensure all mechanical work is conducted in accordance with health and safety regulations and company policies.
- Quality Assurance: Maintain the mechanical integrity of production lines to meet food safety and quality standards.
- Collaboration with Teams: Work closely with production and quality teams to optimize machine performance.
- Training and Skill Development: Provide on-the-job training to operators on basic machine maintenance, setup, change over and troubleshooting.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify and propose process improvements to enhance equipment reliability and efficiency.
- Maintenance Record-Keeping: Capture all maintenance activities and repairs performed on equipment and machinery in FIIX, the CMMS system. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, breakdowns, and repairs
- Technical Interpretation: Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform necessary maintenance and servicing.
- Tool and Equipment Usage: Utilize various hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment to execute maintenance tasks effectively.
- Fault Detection and Reporting: Identify mechanical faults, defective materials, and unusual equipment behaviour, and report these issues to the relevant supervisors for further action

- Root Cause Analysis: Ability to diagnose mechanical failures and implement effective solutions.
- Troubleshooting Under Pressure: Capable of resolving issues quickly to minimize production delays.
- Technical Adaptability: Ability to understand and work with different mechanical systems and technologies.
- Analytical Thinking: Evaluate machine performance and suggest improvements to optimize efficiency.
- Innovative Problem-Solving: Develop creative solutions for recurring mechanical challenges.
Decision Making Authority and
Responsibilities:
Typical Decisions without consulting Immediate superior
- Minor Repairs and Adjustments: Perform small corrective actions to restore machine functionality.
- Lubrication and Routine Maintenance Scheduling: Decide when to conduct minor preventative maintenance tasks in addition to Preventative and Planned Maintenance.
- Tool and Spare Part Usage: Determine necessary tools and spare parts for immediate repairs.
- Immediate Safety Actions: Implement safety measures to prevent hazards related to mechanical issues.
- Process Adjustments for Optimal Performance: Make minor adjustments to improve equipment efficiency without affecting production standards.
