About the Role

The Machine Specialist is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and optimization of machinery used in the production of fishmeal. This role requires in-depth knowledge of mechanical systems, troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment to ensure smooth plant operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor processing machinery, ensuring efficient and safe operation.
• Perform routine maintenance on machinery to prevent downtime and ensure durability.
• Conduct regular inspections to identify and address potential issues before they become critical.
• Train operators and make sure that the equipment is stored as per OEM recommendations.
• Plan or schedule the equipment based on performance and OEM recommendation.
• Work with the planning office in creating Planned maintenance for all centrifuge equipment, while consulting with the OEM proposed planned schedules.

Requirements

• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, or a red seal in mechanical engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 5-10 years of experience working with industrial machinery, preferably in a fishmeal or food processing plant.

Key Job Outputs:

Machine Operation and Maintenance:

• Operate and monitor processing machinery, ensuring efficient and safe operation.

Troubleshooting and Repairs:

• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and operational problems in machinery.
• Execute repairs promptly to minimize production disruptions.
• Coordinate with other technical staff and management to resolve complex issues.
• Escalate major issues that might lead to the plant start-up and performance.

Installation and Upgrades:

• Install new machinery and equipment as required, ensuring compliance with manufacturer guidelines and safety standards.
• Upgrade existing machinery to enhance performance and efficiency.
• Ensure all installations and upgrades are documented and comply with regulatory standards.

Optimization and Efficiency:

• Analyse machinery performance and recommend improvements to optimize production efficiency.
• Implement best practices for machine operation and maintenance.
• Collaborate with production and quality control teams to ensure product quality.

Safety and Compliance:

• Adhere to all health and safety regulations while performing duties.
• Ensure all machinery and equipment comply with safety and environmental regulations.
• Conduct safety training sessions for plant staff regarding machine operation and maintenance.

 Documentation and Reporting:

• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.
• Prepare detailed reports on machine performance, incidents, and corrective actions taken.
• Keep inventory of spare parts and tools, ensuring adequate stock for maintenance needs.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, or a red seal in mechanical engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 5-10 years of experience working with industrial machinery, preferably in a fishmeal or food processing plant.

Knowledge, Skills and Attributes & Essential Competencies:

• Proficiency in mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems. Knowledge of PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) systems is advantageous.
• Relevant certifications in industrial maintenance, welding, or mechanical systems are preferred.
• Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and the capacity to work under pressure.
• Good communication and teamwork skills are essential.
• Work primarily in an industrial plant setting, with exposure to loud noises, odours, and varying temperatures.
• May be required from time to time to work long hours, including weekends, to cover production schedules and emergencies.
• Ability to lift heavy objects.
• Stamina to stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
