• Qualification as a Laboratory Technologist: B. Tech with active HPCSA registration/ B.Sc. Medical Bioscience or equivalent
• One years’ laboratory experience in clinical/ research/ academic.
• Current SA-GCP certificate
• Computer literate
• Meticulous attention to detail
• Good numeracy, literacy and organizational skills
• Ability to follow protocols
• Good interpersonal and time management skills
• Laboratory safety practices
• Confidentiality – will handle confidential participant data

 Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

• Operate within the lab according to established safety standards,
• Perform protocol required and clinically indicated tests as requested by clinical team.
• Document and issue results within specific turn-around-time.
• Receive, process, and prepare specimens documenting each step as required.
• Store (per protocol requirements), ship and trace samples sent for assays done at referral laboratories and document each step as required.
• Work according to procedures set out by the Laboratory Manager to:
• Facilitate the maintenance, repair and calibration of equipment,
• Maintain adequate stock of assay kits and laboratory consumables,
• Maintain waste disposal systems for the entire site.
• Work according to procedures set out by the Admin Team to:
• Maintain adequate stock of office consumables used within the laboratory.
• Work according to procedures set out by the Laboratory Manager to:
• Facilitate the maintenance, repair and calibration of equipment,
• Maintain adequate stock of assay kits and laboratory consumables,
• Maintain waste disposal systems for the entire site.
• Work according to procedures set out by the Admin Team to:
• Maintain adequate stock of office consumables used within the laboratory.
• Work according to procedures set out by the Laboratory Manager/ sponsor/ protocol to (data management):
• Complete source documentation and capture data,
• Liaise with study staff, referral labs and sponsors in obtaining results and resolving data queries,
• Address lab data discrepancies raised by the clinic team, sponsor, referral labs etc.
• Partake in site, institutional and sponsor training required for the role

Additional Information:

• Position based at the Vuka Research Clinic, Khayelitsha
• 12-month Fixed Term Contract
• Working hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
