Duties & Responsibilities
Equipment Installation and Maintenance
- Install, assemble and fit mechanical equipment and machinery, such as pumps, turbines, compressors, heat exchangers and piping systems.
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections on mechanical equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Identify wear and tear on machinery components and replace parts as necessary.
Troubleshooting and Repairs
- Diagnose mechanical faults in equipment and identify the root cause of failures.
- Conduct repairs and adjustments to ensure minimal downtime and safe operation.
- Utilise technical manuals and blueprints to resolve equipment issues efficiently.
Adherence to Safety Standards
- Follow safety protocols and procedures, especially those specific to the petrochemical environment (e.g. handling hazardous materials and working in explosive atmospheres).
- Conduct risk assessments before commencing any work and implement mitigation measures.
- Ensure compliance with industry-specific standards such as API, ASME, and OHSA regulations.
Fabrication and Modifications
- Fabricate, modify and install custom mechanical parts and systems as per project requirements.
- Use tools such as grinders, drills and welding equipment to perform modifications safely and accurately.
Quality Assurance
- Conduct precision alignment of rotating equipment using tools such as laser alignment systems.
- Conduct hydrostatic, pneumatic, and other pressure tests to verify system integrity.
- Test repaired or newly installed systems to verify functionality and ensure they meet performance standards.
- Maintain detailed records of inspections, repairs and maintenance activities for auditing and compliance.
Collaboration with Other Teams
- Work closely with engineers, supervisors and other trades (e.g. electricians and instrument technicians) to achieve project goals.
- Provide input during planning and shutdown periods to ensure work schedules are realistic and achievable.
- Assist in training and mentoring junior team members when required.
Tools and Equipment Handling
- Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools and diagnostic equipment effectively.
- Ensure tools and equipment are kept in safe working condition.
Emergency Response
- Act swiftly to mechanical failures during emergencies to minimise risks and downtime.
- Participate in emergency shutdowns or turnarounds as required.
Continuous Improvement
- Suggest process improvements to enhance equipment reliability and reduce operational costs.
- Stay updated with advancements in mechanical systems and tools relevant to the petrochemical industry.
Documentation and Reporting
- Prepare detailed maintenance logs, failure reports and recommendations for further actions.
- Ensure that work is properly documented and submitted in line with company requirements.
Experience & Qualification
- 3 to 5 years’ experience
- Trade certificate
