Job Summary
– Maintain and monitor systems to ensure high availability, security, and performance.
– Automate routine system administration tasks to improve efficiency and reliability.
– Collaborate with development teams to deploy and manage applications in production environments.
– Configure and manage cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or similar platforms).
– Implement continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
– Manage backup and disaster recovery systems.
– Troubleshoot and resolve system and network issues promptly.
– Stay up-to-date with emerging DevOps and system administration technologies and best practices.
Requirements:
– 1-3 years of experience in a DevOps or System Administration role.
– Strong understanding of Linux/Unix systems.
– Familiarity with cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure) and virtualisation technologies.
– Experience with automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform) and scripting (Bash, Python, etc.).
– Knowledge of CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI).
– Bonus: Knowledge of Ceph software defined storage.
– Familiarity with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes).
– Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex system issues.
– Ability to work independently and as part of a small, collaborative team.
– Must be based in South Africa, with preference given to candidates in or near Cape Town who can work onsite at least one day per week.
– Bonus: Interest or experience in science, astronomy, or working on data-intensive systems.
