Job Summary
Work 100% remotely on enterprise-grade SQL infrastructure, lead advanced database performance and reliability operations, and collaborate with DevOps and application teams in a highly technical environment.
? Qualifications
- Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA
- Solid T-SQL development and administrative scripting (PowerShell)
- Preferred:
- Microsoft Certified: SQL Server / Azure DBA
- Experience with SSIS, SSRS, SSAS
- Familiarity with cloud-based SQL Server (Azure/Amazon RDS)
Requirements
- Deep technical experience in:
- Microsoft SQL Server installation, configuration, and optimization (2012 or newer)
- SQL Server High Availability (Always On, clustering, mirroring, replication)
- Backup/recovery strategy development (incl. PITR)
- Performance monitoring and tuning (Profiler, DMVs, Extended Events)
- Scripting automation (PowerShell, T-SQL)
- Security best practices, encryption, access controls
- Capacity planning and incident resolution in production environments
- Clear and confident communication skills for cross-team collaboration
- Willingness to work in the EST timezone, including occasional after-hours/weekend availability
? Key Performance Areas (KPA’s)
- SQL Server Maintenance
- Run index rebuilds, stats updates, DBCC checks
- Ensure healthy operations of mission-critical databases
- High Availability / DR
- Administer Always On Availability Groups, failover clustering, and DR runbooks
- Design and test disaster recovery procedures
- Troubleshooting & Incident Response
- Diagnose and fix server crashes, performance drops, transaction log failures
- Collaborate on root cause analysis
- Automation & Scripting
- Create PowerShell and T-SQL scripts for backups, monitoring, and maintenance
- Reduce manual interventions in daily DBA operations
- Database Security & Compliance
- Manage encryption, role-based access, and auditing
- Align systems with compliance standards and best practices
- Monitoring & Optimization
- Use SQL Profiler, DMVs, and native tools to identify and resolve bottlenecks
- Optimize queries, indexes, and resource usage
- Collaboration & Documentation
- Liaise with DevOps and engineering teams to align database changes with business needs
- Maintain clear documentation for configs, incidents, and DR plans
