Job Description
This internship provides exposure to hydrological monitoring, water sampling, and environmental compliance projects. While no prior work experience is required, applicants must have a solid academic foundation in hydrology, water resources, or environmental sciences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with hydrological assessments, including surface and groundwater studies.
- Monitor and analyse water quality, flow rates, and rainfall data.
- Prepare technical reports, risk assessments, and regulatory submissions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues on-site.
- Support environmental impact assessments and water resource management projects.
- Liaise with clients, regulatory authorities, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Ensure all documentation is accurate and submitted to the Report Coordinator.
- Work alongside senior consultants on environmental monitoring projects.
- Be prepared to work overtime and remain on standby when required.
Minimum Requirements:
- South African unemployed youth between the ages of 18 and 34.
- Must not have participated on the YES programme before.
- Matric Certificate (with results).
- BSc, BTech, or equivalent qualification in Hydrology, Environmental Science, or related field.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.
- Strong understanding of South African water legislation, e.g., National Water Act.
- Proven ability to conduct accurate field measurements and maintain equipment.
- Physically fit to conduct fieldwork.
- Ability to work in the field and in varying environmental conditions.
- Proficiency in hydrological modelling software and GIS applications.
- Excellent report writing, data analysis, and communication skills.
Desired/Preferred:
- Postgraduate qualification (Honours/Masters) in a relevant field.
- Familiarity with GIS or hydrological modelling software.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and in field environments.
