Durban: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Key Responsibilities: Execute mechanical engineering design activities in compliance with project procedures, client specifications, and national standards. Lead and supervise design teams, reviewing and approving their work. Develop detailed first-principle calculations, process flow diagrams, equipment specifications, and technical reports. Conduct plant audits, troubleshoot operational issues, and provide optimization solutions. Participate in multi-disciplinary project teams, design reviews, HAZOP studies, and technical investigations. Review supplier quotations, drawings, and documentation from a mechanical engineering perspective. Prepare operating manuals, technical proposals, and engineering documentation. Ensure adherence to health and safety legislation and ISO9001 standards. Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement in design workflows and standards. Job Experience & Skills Required: BSc or BEng in Mechanical Engineering. Minimum 10 years experience in mechanical design within oil & gas or petrochemical industries. Professional registration with ECSA. Strong technical knowledge in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and stress analysis. Familiarity with national and international standards (NFPA, API, SANS). Proficiency in MS Office, design software (e.g., AFT Fathom, AFT Impulse), and working knowledge of AutoCAD.
