About the Role

Zeebra Junction Specialist Recruitment is seeking an experienced and dynamic Accounts Manager to oversee and manage the full spectrum of accounting and financial functions for a leading sugar manufacturing operation in Uganda. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing strong financial insights to support strategic decision-making at senior management level, while ensuring accurate financial reporting, statutory compliance, and effective cost control.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate books of accounts in line with accounting standards and company policies.
• Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Ensure timely submission of statutory returns (VAT, PAYE, NSSF, Income Tax, etc.) and handle related engagements with tax authorities.
• Manage general ledger, accounts receivable, and accounts payable processes.
• Develop annual budgets and oversee budgetary controls.
• Monitor daily cash flow and working capital requirements.
• Manage banking relationships and coordinate financing facilities.
• Ensure timely disbursement of payments to suppliers and employees.
• Implement robust internal controls to safeguard company assets.
• Oversee treasury functions, collaborating closely with sales and procurement departments.
• Supervise documentation and maintain accurate financial records.
• Support annual statutory audit processes and coordinate with external auditors.
• Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff to ensure departmental efficiency.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, with professional qualifications such as CA or CMS.
• 7+ years progressive accounting and financial management experience, preferably within the manufacturing industry.
• Proficiency in SAP ERP or equivalent accounting software is essential.
• In-depth knowledge of taxation, statutory compliance, and audit practices.
• Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.

Qualifications

• Completed Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance, with professional qualifications such as CA or CMS)
