About the Role
A leading sugar manufacturing operation ( Sugar Factory) in Uganda is seeking an experienced and dynamic Accounts Manager to oversee and manage the full spectrum of accounting and financial functions for the Sugar Factory. This role is critical in ensuring accurate financial reporting, statutory compliance, effective cost control, and providing strong financial insights to support strategic decision-making at senior management level.
*Important to note that preference will be given to Indian Nationals / Citizens with experience working in Africa
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate books of accounts in line with accounting standards and company policies.
- Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure timely submission of statutory returns (VAT, PAYE, NSSF, Income Tax, etc.) and handle related engagements with tax authorities.
- Manage general ledger, accounts receivable, and accounts payable processes.
- Develop annual budgets and oversee budgetary controls.
- Monitor daily cash flow and working capital requirements.
- Manage banking relationships and coordinate financing facilities.
- Ensure timely disbursement of payments to suppliers and employees.
- Ensure compliance with tax laws, labor regulations, and internal company policies.
- Implement robust internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Oversee treasury functions, collaborating closely with sales and procurement departments.
- Supervise documentation and maintain accurate financial records.
- Support annual statutory audit processes and coordinate with external auditors.
- Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff to ensure departmental efficiency.
Key Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance, with professional qualifications such as CA or CMS.
- 710 years progressive accounting and financial management experience, preferably within the manufacturing industry.
- Proficiency in SAP ERP or equivalent accounting software is essential.
- In-depth knowledge of taxation, statutory compliance, and audit practices.
- Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
