About the Role
Assign Services (Pty) Ltd is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Assistant Store Manager to join our team in South Africa. As a key member of our retail operations, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the success of our stores through excellent customer service, efficient inventory management, and effective leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in opening and closing the store
- Ensure merchandise is properly stocked and displayed
- Monitor inventory levels and support inventory control (stock counts, shrink prevention)
- Help implement store policies and procedures
- Maintain store cleanliness and organization
- Supervise and support staff during shifts
- Help onboard, train, and mentor new employees
- Delegate tasks and ensure efficient team workflow
- Motivate staff to meet sales targets and deliver great customer service
- Resolve customer complaints and issues professionally
- Provide support during peak hours (returns, checkout, inquiries)
- Ensure a positive shopping experience for every customer
- Lead by example in delivering top-notch service
- Assist with meeting and exceeding sales goals
- Track daily/weekly sales performance
- Report to the Store Manager on key metrics and store performance
- Help with promotions, upselling, and product launches
- Assist in cash register operations and daily cash reconciliation
- Monitor for theft or policy violations
- Ensure safety procedures are followed (e.g., alarm systems, emergency protocols)
- Help create and manage staff schedules
- Cover shifts as needed
- Support administrative tasks like email correspondence and documentation
Requirements
- 2 years of retail experience
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in cash handling and point-of-sale systems
- Basic knowledge of inventory management and stock control
- High school diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor’s degree preferred
Qualifications
- Completed high school diploma
- Relevant experience in retail operations
Salary & Benefits
- Competitive salary range: R250 000 – R300 000 per annum, depending on experience
