About the Role
We are seeking a Professionally Registered Electrical Engineer to join our Substation Engineering team at Network Finance. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and executing substation primary and secondary design for HV/MV networks, ensuring compliance with applicable standards, client requirements, and project timelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute substation primary and secondary design for HV/MV networks.
- Prepare single-line diagrams, schematics, protection settings, equipment specifications, and BOMs.
- Perform load flow, short-circuit, and protection coordination studies.
- Provide technical support during procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning.
- Ensure designs comply with NESC, IEC, IEEE, SANS, or other relevant standards.
- Conduct site inspections, quality checks, and technical audits for ongoing projects.
- Coordinate with utilities, EPC contractors, and other engineering disciplines.
- Prepare technical reports, design calculations, and project documentation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (B.Eng/BSc or equivalent).
- Professional Registration Pr Eng.
- Minimum 5–10 years’ experience in HV/MV substation design and engineering.
- Proven experience with 132kV–400kV, and 11kV–33kV systems (depending on region).
- Proficiency in design and analysis tools such as ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, AutoCAD, Revit, or similar.
- Strong knowledge of substation equipment (transformers, switchgear, protection relays, CTs/VTs, control and protection panels).
Qualifications
- Completed Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
