About the Role
The University of Cape Town Lung Institute (Pty) Ltd is seeking a highly skilled Community Health Worker to join our team. As a key member of our research study, you will be responsible for recruiting and screening participants, ensuring participant safety and integrity, and providing education and support to participants during the screening process.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruitment, screening and consenting of study participants
- Retention and follow-up of study participants (to attend appointments)
- Ensure participants take medication at prescribed times
- Do home visits to participants who default their appointments
- Keep Registered Nurse informed of participants and report any irregularities
- Data Collection and administrative duties – questionnaires, data entry and verification
- Maintain database of participant information and complete participant progress reports as required
- Provide education and support to participants during the screening process
- Educate participants on, research, TB/HIV, and adherence.
- Assist the Clinical staff to ensure correct labeling and transport of specimens to the relevant laboratories.
Requirements
- Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate or Equivalent
- Experience in the healthcare environment with sound knowledge of recruiting
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology – especially TB and HIV
- Confidentiality
- Detail orientated
- Must be able to work as part of a team
- Able to work overtime to ensure participant safety and maintain the integrity of research studies
- Flexible, able and willing to make changes in work schedule to meet the demands of the company
- Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
- Fluency in English and another South African Language
- General Computer Literacy (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook and Internet; Data Management Systems advantageous)
- Good interpersonal, communication and time management skills
- Must possess a positive and professional attitude, with a customer centric outlook
- Credit and Criminal Clear
