About the Role
The University of Cape Town Lung Institute (Pty) Ltd is seeking a Community Health Worker to join our team in Masiphumelele. As a Community Health Worker, you will be part of research that improves health outcomes, supports vaccine studies, and connects people in your community to meaningful healthcare support.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruiting and supporting study participants (adults and children) within the community
- Conducting home visits and follow-ups to ensure continued participation
- Educating participants about studies, health tracking, and self-monitoring
- Supporting participants with asthma diaries and symptom tracking
- Collecting and capturing accurate data and questionnaires
- Maintaining participant records and reporting progress
- Assisting with transport of participants, documents, and specimens
- Setting up and managing community-based monitoring equipment
- Working closely with the Research Nurse and broader team
Requirements
- Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate
- Experience working in a clinic or healthcare environment
- Good understanding of the local community (Masiphumelele)
- Knowledge of medical terminology (advantageous)
- Basic computer literacy
- Fluency in English and another South African language
