Johannesburg: Business Development Manager (Construction)

Job Description

KEY REQUIREMENTS TO MEET FOR CONSIDERATION: A relevant tertiary qualification in Business, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering or a related field will be advantageous. You will have a minimum of 37 years experience in business development, sales, marketing or commercial roles within the construction industry, with a proven track record of securing construction projects or service contracts. You will be responsible for identifying and pursuing new business opportunities within the construction industry, developing and managing a strong pipeline of prospective clients, developers, consultants and contractors. The role requires leading client presentations, negotiations and contract discussions, converting leads into secured projects aligned with company objectives. You will build and maintain long-term relationships with clients, consultants, architects, engineers and suppliers, acting as a key point of contact during pre-contract and tender phases. Attendance at industry events, site meetings and networking functions forms an integral part of the role. The successful candidate will identify and assess tender opportunities in both the public and private sector, collaborating closely with estimating, technical and operations teams to prepare compliant and competitive bids and proposals. You will contribute to pricing strategies and commercial risk assessments, ensuring all submission deadlines are met. You will monitor market trends, competitor activity and upcoming developments, providing insights to management to support strategic growth initiatives and identifying new sectors, regions or services for expansion. Strong reporting capability is essential, including maintaining accurate CRM records, sales forecasts and providing regular reports on pipeline performance, conversions and revenue. You will be expected to meet or exceed agreed business development targets and KPIs. You must be able to work independently, manage your time effectively, maintain accurate records and demonstrate a proactive, results-driven approach to business development. You must have a valid drivers licence and own reliable vehicle, as well as a clear criminal and credit record.
