Job Description
About the Role
The Construction Safety Officer will be responsible for ensuring the safety of our construction site, conducting daily inspections, and implementing control measures to mitigate risks. As a key member of our operations team, you will deliver safety inductions, toolbox talks, and safety meetings; promote a strong safety culture. You will also review and approve subcontractor safety files, conduct incident investigations, and ensure EHS reporting is maintained.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily inspections and monthly audits to identify hazards and assess risks
- Implement control measures to mitigate identified risks
- Deliver safety inductions, toolbox talks, and safety meetings; promote a strong safety culture
- Develop and maintain health & safety plans, incident reports, inspection records, and risk assessments
- Investigate accidents/near-misses, manage emergency preparedness plans, and conduct drills
Requirements
- Diploma/Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent
- Professional Registrations: SACPCMP Registration as Construction Health and Safety Officer (CHSO) – MANDATORY
- Proven experience in construction safety with strong focus on civil work, with specific post-qualification years required
- Strong character and personality, communication, leadership, attention to detail, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Proficiency with MS Office; knowledge of safety regulations and standards
