About the Role
The Senior HSE Professional is responsible for driving and maintaining a total safety culture in our East London plant, ensuring compliance with health, safety, ergonomics, and environmental regulations. This role requires a strong understanding of HSEE management systems and the ability to coordinate various activities to achieve performance targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor contractors to ensure they are compliant with minimum HSEE requirements and have a valid permit to work.
- Ensure that the company’s HSEE policies and procedures are fully complied with in order to reduce the risk of litigation.
- Coordinate and control First Aid activities, accident & spillage investigations, and collation of accident statistics (internal and external reporting).
- Liaise with all relevant parties on occupational health issues.
- Liaise with all relevant parties on all environmental compliance issues.
- Schedule and coordinate HSEE committee meetings in accordance with company procedures.
- Represent the plant externally on HSEA issues, in cooperation and agreement with the Regional HSEA Manager.
- Drive and co-ordinate the site behaviour based safety program, Total Safety Culture.
- Facilitate incident investigations involving fire or other emergencies.
- Ensure that people with responsibility for safety and environment are challenged.
- Act as the “internal consultant” to the plant manager and to the plant management team.
- Facilitate / provide and/or conduct training in all HSEE matters.
- Complete and update all Environmental Aspect and Impact assessments and Health/Safety Risk assessments. (including Hazardous Chemical Substance assessments)
- Assist plant management team in the development of HSEA objective and targets to ensure compliance with ISO14001 and ISO 45001 and to drive continuous improvement.
- Develop management programs for set objectives and targets.
- Track progress on a monthly basis and report to plant management.
- Maintain ISO14001 and ISO 45001 certification.
- Conduct internal HSEE audits based on IOS and YFMS and regional requirements.
- Track progress of open audit findings as per target dates.
- Advise plant management on any updates/changes and actions required pertaining to HSEA legislative requirements.
- Ensure requirements as per monthly company KPI’s are met (100% compliance).
- Action plans to be developed and agreed with plant manager if full compliance has not been achieved.
Requirements
- Matric / Grade 12
- Relevant degree/diploma with qualification in Health and Safety
- Previous experience with ISO14001, ISO 45001
- 5 years full time experience in the Health, Safety and Environmental field
- HSE Experience in Automotive / Manufacturing industry will be an added advantage
