About the Role

We are seeking a Business Analyst (Data Engineering) to join our team in Cape Town. As a key member of our data engineering team, you will partner with business stakeholders to understand and translate their data, reporting, and analytical needs into scalable solutions. This is an Employment Equity role ONLY.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with business users to gather, document, and validate their data, reporting, and analytical requirements.
  • Collaborate with Data Architects and Engineers to design efficient and scalable data solutions that support business processes.
  • Translate business needs into technical specifications, ensuring alignment with data models, source-to-target mappings, and ETL/ELT processes.
  • Support the development and implementation of data-driven solutions, including cloud-based BI dashboards and structured reports.
  • Perform Functional Testing and data validation before solutions are deployed to business users.
  • Assist business stakeholders during User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to ensure solutions meet expectations.
  • Ensure consistency in reporting metrics and data definitions, reducing ambiguity in business reporting.
  • Provide training and user support to enable Business teams to effectively use reporting tools and cloud-based data solutions.
  • Provide input into data governance initiatives, including metadata management, data lineage, and data quality improvements.
  • Support Business teams in maintaining high standards for data accuracy and consistency.
  • Identify and support automation opportunities, reducing reliance on manual processes and increasing efficiency.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, continuously improving engagement models and reporting frameworks.

Requirements

  • Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Data Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or a related field.

Qualifications

  • Experience/Skills:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a Business Analysis-related role, with at least 3 years in a data, analytics, or cloud-based reporting environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Business Analysis techniques and methodologies, including requirements gathering, process modelling, stakeholder management, and impact assessment.
  • Experience working in data and reporting environments, collaborating with Data Architects, Data Engineers, and Business teams.
  • Familiarity with the retail industry and business processes, understanding how data, reporting, and cloud solutions support operations and decision-making.
  • Hands-on experience with SQL, structured reporting, and visualization tools (Power BI, Qlik Sense, QuickSight, SSRS).
  • Strong understanding of data warehouse best practices, including star schema, dimensional modelling, and ETL/ELT processes.
  • Experience working with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud data platforms, including S3, Redshift, and data lakes.
  • Ability to create functional and technical specifications for data and reporting solutions.
  • Awareness of metadata management, data lineage tracking, and data security best practices.
  • Ability to work within structured methodologies for cloud-driven, scalable data architecture, integration, and reporting.
