Summary of the Role
Are you an experienced insurance professional passionate about delivering top-tier personalised underwriting services? Were seeking a skilled Personal Lines Underwriter to manage and support our valued clients personal short-term insurance requirements, upholding the highest standards of service and technical expertise.
Minimum Requirements
- Gr 12 (Matric)
- FIAS Compliant, including required qualifications
- RE 5 Certificate (Regulatory Exam)
- Personal Lines Class of Business Training
- FETC in Short Term Insurance NQF 4
- Higher Certificate in Short Term Insurance NQF 5 (advantageous)
- 25 years Personal Lines underwriting experience
Technical Skills:
- Solid knowledge of personal lines short-term insurance underwriting
- Understanding of insurance market rates and developments
Role Purpose
Take charge of a portfolio of personal insurance clients, providing tailored advice and support. Ensure all interactions, changes, and renewals are accurately managed and communicated, maintaining excellent service standards and compliance.
Key Responsibilities

Servicing & Quoting:
- Provide quotations on existing portfolios
- Assist clients with policy updates, amendments, additions, or deletions
- Communicate all actions and confirmations in writing

Client Interaction:
- Offer expert advice, ensure clients are accurately insured
- Follow up on outstanding documents and warranties
- Manage cancellation requests, address client retention proactively

Renewals:
- Conduct thorough policy renewals, reviewing risk factors and claim history
- Adjust values and endorse policies as necessary
- Liaise with insurers for high risk, high claim, or RI limit cases

Reinsurance & Referrals:
- Refer cases above limits to insurers and secure written cover confirmation
- Ensure compliance with all referral procedures

Credit Control:
- Manage accounts queries, follow up on unpaid premiums
- Ensure compliance with cancellation and notification processes
