About the Role
A well-established national FMCG business is seeking a strong, hands-on Transport Manager to lead, manage and optimise their national transport portfolio. This role will oversee cross border transport, local distribution, fleet utilisation, people management across ±50 staff, and continuous improvement within multiple cost centres. The environment requires someone operationally engaged, commercially aware and comfortable being deeply involved in the day-to-day detail while still driving strategic optimisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Directing and coordinating national transport operations
- Ensuring legal compliance (H&S / Road Safety / Labour)
- Cost control across all transport expense lines
- Fleet management oversight
- Preventative maintenance and roadworthiness
- Reporting, analytics and KPI management
- Staff performance management, coaching & discipline
- Building and maintaining internal and external stakeholder relationships
- Managing cross border documentation, customs and FX admin
- CCMA support when required
- Tender and supplier audit involvement
Requirements
- Matric plus a Post Graduate Diploma in Transport Management
- ±10 years in a transport/logistics management role
- Strong Excel, reporting and data interpretation ability
- Transport cost lifecycle understanding (CPK etc.)
- Experience leading large transport teams in fast-paced environments
- Sound knowledge of truck & fridge maintenance beneficial
