About the Role
The Mechanical Supervisor will organise, lead and control all shift fitters, ensuring efficient execution of mechanical repairs, preventative maintenance, and new machinery installations. The role is critical to minimizing downtime, improving asset reliability, and ensuring mechanical equipment is always production-ready.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise, lead and coordinate mechanical artisans and fitters on shift.
- Plan, schedule and prepare for maintenance activities to reduce production impact.
- Lead mechanical breakdown response and ensure efficient fault diagnosis.
- Inspect, monitor and record the condition of all machinery and mechanical equipment.
- Ensure daily, weekly and monthly preventative maintenance is completed.
- Assist in installation and commissioning of new mechanical systems and upgrades.
- Maintain accurate documentation: job cards, checklists, maintenance reports.
- Implement safety standards, lock-out procedures and engineering best practices.
- Identify areas for improvement to enhance machine availability and performance.
Requirements
- Qualified Artisan Fitter / Mechanical Supervisor with relevant trade.
- Minimum 5 years mechanical maintenance experience, preferably in recycling, manufacturing or heavy industrial environments.
- Strong leadership, planning and coordination ability.
- Working knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, gearboxes, conveyors, shredders, and plant equipment.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work shifts and respond to emergencies.
