About the Role
The Clinical Facilitator – Psychiatry role at SD Recruitment (Pty) Ltd is a permanent position that requires a highly skilled and experienced professional to provide clinical guidance, mentoring, and skills development support to psychiatric nurses. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting clinical vetting, assessment, induction, orientation, and follow-up evaluations for psychiatric nursing staff placed at client facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct clinical vetting, assessment, induction, orientation, and follow-up evaluations for psychiatric nursing staff placed at client facilities.
- Provide clinical guidance, mentoring, and skills development support to psychiatric nurses, ensuring correct application of psychiatric nursing practices and compliance with SANC regulations and the Mental Health Care Act.
- Identify training needs and facilitate coaching, assessments, refresher training, and professional development interventions.
- Investigate, document, and report on clinical incidents and assessment outcomes, ensuring accurate record keeping on Placement Partner and relevant systems.
- Ensure compliance with quality, safety, statutory, and client-specific nursing standards and policies.
- Conduct regular client site visits, maintain stakeholder relationships, and obtain performance feedback.
- Support recruitment and compliance processes, including candidate interviews and registration verification where required.
- Assist in the development and implementation of training materials, policies, and clinical facilitation processes.
- Perform relevant administrative duties related to clinical facilitation and maintain professional and confidential conduct at all times.
Minimum Requirements
- Nursing qualification – A four (4) year Diploma or Degree in Nursing (Regulation R425) allowing registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse (inclusive of a minimum six (6) months psychiatry component).
- Registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse with a valid Annual Practising Certificate (APC).
- One (1) year Postgraduate Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing accredited by SANC; OR Eight (8) or more years’ experience across psychiatric nursing categories (for nurses who completed psychiatry within their four-year qualification and gained extensive practical psychiatric experience).
Required Experience
- Minimum six (6) years’ clinical experience in most of the following areas:
- Mental health patients
- Psychiatric patients
- Psychiatry in adolescents, children, and the elderly
- Minimum 2–5 years’ experience in Clinical Facilitation/Training of Nurses (preferred).
- 3–5 years’ working experience as a Registered Nurse in a clinical psychiatric setting.
Knowledge and Competencies
- Sound knowledge of DSM-5-TR (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders).
- Sound knowledge and application of the Mental Health Care Act 17 of 2002.
- Knowledge of scope of practice of all nursing categories and SANC regulations.
- Strong clinical guidance and mentoring ability.
- Excellent facilitation and communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
- High level of organisation and administrative ability.
- Strong problem-solving and risk identification skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Administration and Technical Skills
- Computer literate (MS Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Strong reporting and documentation skills.
- Good time management and organisational skills.
