Cape Town City Centre: General Technical Assistant – Boilershop

The Boilershop team requires committed, hardworking and reliable General Technical Assistants to join their team. These General Technical Assistants will support the rest of the department with fabrication, repair, and maintenance activities. This role involves assisting with tools, materials, workshop organization, basic fabrication tasks, and ensuring a safe and efficient working environment. The General Technical Assistants will be responsible for the following tasks, amongst others: Housekeeping on a daily basis General workshop duties i.e. maintaining the cleanliness of the workshop and tool store Cleaning of tools Identify and able to select appropriate hand tools Able to use basic power tools Able to do to minor/ basic welding tasks Demonstrate appropriate knowledge of workshop safety Complete basic task using oxygen/acetylene cutting process under supervision Assisting Artisans with various tasks as and when required Qualifying Criteria: Grade 12 Basic knowledge of Health and Safety rules Ability to handle tools i.e. cutting machines Previous experience in the same or similar role advantageous Adhere to Health and Safety rules and regulations Qualifying Attributes Hard-working and self-motivated Prepared to work overtime and weekends when required Physically fit (Strength to handle materials, tools and machines) Sober habits Able to work in a team as well as independently Honest and reliable Must be willing and eager to learn Ability to multi-task and manage a demanding workload in a pressurised environment Physically mobile and energetic Ability to follow rules Be organised and keep their work area neat and tidy Other Information: Job title: General Technical Assistant Job type: Permanent position Benefits include · Provident fund · Life cover at 4x annual salary · Funeral cover · 15 x paid leave days per annum · Long service leave after five years of employment Standard hours 07h30–17h00: Monday – Thursday 07h30–16h00: Friday May be required to work overtime as per operational requirements We regret that it is not possible to contact all unsuccessful applicants.
