Reporting directly to the Lead Engineer: Geometric Design – Cape Town BACKGROUND The job title of the successful incumbents will be dependent on skills, experience and professional registration. The incumbents will be based in either Cape Town or Bryanston. Only candidates who are proficient in Civil3D should apply. SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED BSc / BEng / BTech / BEng Tech in Civil Engineering. Active registration with ECSA as a candidate engineer/ technologist, with a willingness to learn and eligibility to obtain professional registration within the next 1-2 years (non-senior). Professional registration as a Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng with ECSA (senior). Minimum 3-8 years’ post graduate experience, specifically in the planning and design of road projects (freeways, interchanges, arterials and collector roads and urban streets) with demonstrable proficiency in Civil 3D. Good hands-on experience and knowledge of geometric design, workflows and the ability to generate roadworks designs and associated drawings using Civil3D software is essential. Computer literate. Proficient in MS Office Suite, MS Project, AutoCAD and Civil3D / and other relevant design software. Good working knowledge of South African geometric design standards. Experience in the geometric design of complex road projects. Experience in design of stormwater and drainage infrastructure associated with roads projects. Experience in technical coordination with other engineering disciplines. Good interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. Ability to work independently, but also as part of a dynamic team as a co-operative, collaborative and supportive team player. Have a keen eye for detail and work accurately under pressure. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Member of road planning and design team on designated projects. Regular liaison and reporting to Lead Engineer: Geometric Design or other Responsible Persons in the organisation, as per project requirements. Research, compile relevant data, evaluation of the technical and financial aspects, complete with cost estimates and budget quotations for Civil Engineering proposals (non-senior will assist). Undertake the planning and design of road and storm water projects including production of technical drawings, designs, reports and documents as directed. Carry out Feasibility Studies, Preliminary and Detailed Design for Transportation projects (will be under supervision for non-senior). Check all drawings, designs, reports and documents produced in accordance with relevant design guidelines and the Company’s Quality Management System’s requirements as set out in the applicable work instructions and checklists. Preparation of tender documents including detailed specifications, general conditions of contract and schedules of quantities (including determining quantities for roadworks related infrastructure) (non-senior will assist). Monitoring and implementation of site construction work as, where and when required, on a part-time of full-time basis. Carry out site inspections, project and network level assessments and other assigned construction monitoring activities in accordance with the Company’s Quality Management System’s requirements as set out in the applicable work instructions and checklists. Attend Client and technical meetings and compile minutes as and when required. Registered as a candidate with ECSA to ensure advancement towards registration as a Professional Engineer / Technologist within 1-2 years (non-senior). Complete and submit monthly blueprint reports as per annual calendar (non-senior). Manage the technical outputs of direct reports (senior). Management, supervision, mentoring and coaching (senior). Participate in professional organisations for marketing, industry recognition and networking. Marketing and business development initiatives (non-senior will assist). Compliance with and managing direct reports (if applicable) compliance with the company’s Quality Management System (ISO 9001:2015) Business Management System (BMS) and the Project Management Online Guide (PMOG). Perform research and write technical papers for publication or presentation at industry related conferences. Maintain regular and continued professional development through on the job training, in-house courses, seminars or outsourced specialist training as required and as agreed with the designated Executive Manager or other Responsible Persons.
