Cape Town City Centre: Senior Project Manager (Technical Space) – Contract

Job Summary

Description of the role: This role is responsible for developing, in conjunction with the Project Sponsor, a definition of the project. The Project Manager then ensures that the project is delivered on time, to budget and to the required quality standard (within agreed specifications). He/she ensures the project is effectively resourced and manages relationships with a wide range of groups (including all project contributors, senior stakeholders and executives). The Project Manager is also responsible for managing the work of consultants, allocating and utilising resources in an efficient manner and maintaining a co-operative, motivated and successful team. The Project manager is responsible for project governance including reporting at all levels as per the project life cycle. Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, Attributes, Experience, Qualifications Knowledge and Skills: IT/Systems: • Microsoft Office: Excel; Word; Power Point; Outlook • MS Project • Planview • Sharepoint • Oracle HRMS • Oracle Financials (BVAR) • Tools: TFS, PPO • JIRA Business and Technical Knowledge: • Stakeholder management planning and engagement approaches • Understanding business strategy/objectives and requirements and how the project will support/address it. • Project management – complex and concurrent projects including concurrent projects • Risk management: experienced in identification, assessment and management of project risks • Good use of project management methodologies – AGILE, Waterfall etc • Good understanding and use of project management tools, systems and templates e.g. MS Project, Gantt charts, dashboards • Effective project budgeting and tracking • Resource Planning and Management • Change management • Change controls and logs • Project governance, quality standards and control • Corporate Governance • Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) • Product Breakdown Structure (PBS) • Performance Management and coaching • Ability to lead a team to achieve goals • Chairing and facilitate meetings Personal Attributes/skills: • Excellent communication skills (written, email, phone, F2F) • Analytical skills • Planning and co-ordination skills • Negotiation skills • Influencing skills • EQ • Assertive and positive • Delegation • Presentation skills • Facilitation skills • Organisation skills • Conflict management • Decision making and Problem solving • Adaptable and flexible • Solution driven – able to react quickly and resolve issues to that the workflow continues • Target Driven • Work under pressure with multiple projects/activities and resources • Leadership skills Experience and qualification: • Minimum: 3-year Tertiary Qualification (Degree or Diploma);3 years of experience; OR Matric • 6 years of experience • Relevant technical qualification as determined per role • Preferably: 5-10 years Project Management experience • Recognised Project Management accreditation/ qualification Outputs Description: Employ and management project scoping process. • Interrogate the business requirements/brief and objectives/benefits for a new project • Based on above, engage with the project sponsor to agree on parameters that define the technical and business scope of the project. • With the required background research, consultation and analysis, scope the project initiation document (PID) containing; – Break down into major pieces of work, phases, overview of timelines, deliveries, resources and estimated cost. – Define and agree on the KPI/success metrics for project delivery – Present to project sponsor for approval. – Iterate changes/different options based on feedback. – Get baseline approval. • Rigorously manage the project to the agreed scope, ensuring that change control is applied to any potential changes in scope Review and manage change request and change control process • Manage the integrated change control process by undertaking the following: – Review and evaluate the merits and impacts of potential project changes. – Analyse and/or investigate and present options/ alternatives to project Steercom/sponsor in terms of suggested changes. – Analyse and highlight the direct impact of changes on the on the business case with the sponsor – Negotiate and facilitate the approval of necessary changes that still adhere to the Minimum Viable Product – Re-baseline changes to project schedule, plan, business case/benefits plan and costs – Ensure change log is updated. Facilitate and manage Project planning & integration • Facilitate initiation engagement and agreement with SME’s/business owners surrounding how the business case translates into a project in terms of the project components, approach, key stakeholders etc • Establishes the target plans across multiple projects. • Based on the completed project scope undertake required analysis to formulate and sign-off the project schedule including; – Utilise appropriate methods to estimate effort for work breakdown (tasks, activities, timelines, costs, resources, sequencing of tasks, dependencies, constraints etc) – Develop the project schedule and define the critical path and key assumptions – Present and iterate changes with project sponsor, if required • Utilise the outcome from the engagement session with Business owners/Sponsor as well as the project schedule to augment the PID • Monitor, control and manage the execution of the project according to the plan. – Monitor and control delivery of all the different project components, dependencies and critical path. – If required, adjust plan to manage constraints, dependencies, risks and changes whilst balancing the need to deliver value to the business – Facilitate project meetings and undertake required reporting on project status and performance Drive effective quality management • Determine the approach to achieving quality including quality standards, controls and governances, processes and measures and build these into the project plan. • Execute on quality components through duration of the project.
