Health & Safety Officer / Administrator
Job Description:
We are looking for a skilled and proactive professional to take ownership of implementing and maintaining a comprehensive health and safety system in our factory. This is a new role created to meet the growing demands of our industrial manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will have a background in occupational health and safety and experience in setting up robust health and safety systems from scratch.
Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and manage a health and safety management system tailored to our industrial manufacturing environment.
- Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments to ensure a safe workplace.
- Ensure compliance with South African health and safety legislation, regulations, and industry standards.
- Develop and maintain health and safety policies, procedures, and documentation.
- Lead training and awareness programs to foster a culture of safety across all levels of the organization.
- Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Stay updated on changes in health and safety regulations and integrate them into company practices.
- Coordinate with regulatory bodies and external auditors during inspections or reviews.
- Maintain accurate records of safety-related activities, reports, and compliance documentation.
Requirements:
- A formal qualification in occupational health and safety or a related field.
- Proven experience in establishing and managing health and safety systems in an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of South African health and safety laws and best practices.
- Strong administrative, organizational, and communication skills.
- The ability to train and engage employees at all levels in health and safety practices.
- A detail-oriented and proactive approach to problem-solving.
- First aid or firefighting certification is a plus.
