About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Toolroom Production Supervisor to lead our press and plating sections in Cape Town. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for overseeing daily operations, managing equipment, and driving process improvements to meet our production targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily operations across the toolroom, press, and plating sections (including Tornos cam-auto machines)
- Set up, calibrate, inspect tooling, manage consumables, and troubleshoot equipment issues
- Track production metrics (output, scrap, rework, downtime) and report daily/weekly performance
- Identify bottlenecks and drive corrective actions to meet production targets
- Enforce quality protocols (IMDS, ISO 9001; ISO 45001 advantageous), labelling, and traceability
- Manage operator maintenance and TPM recording
- Lead, coach, develop, and discipline a team of ~2025 members; manage absenteeism and shifts
- Implement Lean manufacturing principles: 5S, visual management, continuous improvement
- Control departmental costs related to scrap, consumables, and labour
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams: maintenance, QA, engineering, and SHEQ
Requirements
- Fitter & Turner or Toolmaker trade certification
- Min. 5 years mechanical/production supervision experience in a manufacturing setting
- Hands-on knowledge of press tool, lathe, and plating production lines
- Fluent in English and Afrikaans
- Proficient with MS Office: Excel, Word, and Outlook
- ISO 9001 knowledge (ISO 45001 is a plus)
