Job Summary

Education, Skills and Experience:

Relevant Degree in Information Technology or an equivalent NQF Level 7 qualification.
Minimum three (3) years’ experience in:
- User support
- Database installations, configurations, and maintenance
- Backup and recovery
- Database programming (T-SQL)
- Database performance optimisation
- Database security
Minimum one (1) year experience in:
- Data migration
- Capacity planning
- Technical writing
Knowledge of compliance and regulations (e.g., POPIA) and adherence to applicable data standards.
Understanding of data governance principles and concepts.
Knowledge of project management concepts, techniques, and principles.
Advantageous:
- Experience in administering data lake platforms.
- Experience in cloud-based database administration.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide user support for database-related issues to ensure smooth business operations.
Install, configure, and maintain database management systems according to design specifications.
Implement backup and recovery plans to ensure system availability and disaster recovery readiness.
Write T-SQL queries and scripts to support business operations.
Optimise database performance to maintain high availability and accessibility.
Implement database security controls, policies, and procedures.
Migrate data between different sources while ensuring data quality, integrity, and curation.
Contribute to capacity planning to accommodate future growth and increasing demands.
Maintain technical documentation and provide input into policies, procedures, and technical specifications.
Ensure compliance with relevant policies, processes, standards, and regulations.
Administer data governance practices to maintain data integrity and quality.
Adhere to project management standards and techniques during database projects.
