About the Role
WENZ is seeking a Junior Quantity Surveyor to join our team in Durbanville, Western Cape. As a key member of our construction project and financial management team, you will be responsible for preparing elemental cost estimates, evaluating tenders, and managing contract instructions during the construction phase.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare elemental cost estimates based on architectural drawings, engineering estimates, materials required, and labour involved.
- Prepare tender and contractual documents, including bills of quantities.
- Evaluate tenders from contractors and subcontractors and negotiate with them where appropriate.
- Manage Contract Instructions & Variation orders during Construction Phase.
- Manage Fortnightly & Monthly Valuation & Payment Certificates during Construction Phase.
- Monitor and track project progress, measuring and valuing variations in the work during the contract, arranging interim payments, and finalizing the account.
- Conduct site visits and liaise with site managers and contractors/subcontractors.
- Measure subcontractor monthly valuations and final accounts.
- Work as part of a team to ensure client requirements are delivered.
- Manage and produce accurate formal reports, following procedures and instructions in accordance with the business.
- Communicate regularly with project staff and specialist subcontractors to ensure commercial controls are in place.
- Produce accurate measuring, data transfers, formulations, and calculations.
- Work in a well-timed manner not to hold up adjacent teams and project progress.
- Perform general administration tasks.
Requirements
- Matric with a B.Tech or B.Sc degree in Quantity Surveying or a similar qualification.
- Minimum of 1-3 years experience as a Quantity Surveyor.
- Excellent computer literacy – Excel, Word, Outlook, Projects.
- Experience in CCS will be an advantage.
- Familiarity with relevant contracts and standards such as JBCC 2000 Series, GCC (General Conditions of Contract).
- Ability to work independently and under pressure.
- Outstanding accuracy and attention to detail.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Own transport.
