Job Title: Foreign Exchange Specialist Location: Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa Division: Treasury and Trade Solutions Level: Mid to Senior Level Role Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Foreign Exchange Specialist with strong FX market knowledge, in-depth understanding of cross-border payments , balance of payments (BoP) exposure, and advanced expertise in South African Exchange Control regulations . This role plays a critical part in ensuring regulatory compliance, supporting complex FX transactions, and advising on optimal structures for cross-border flows across client portfolios. Key Responsibilities: Provide specialist input on foreign exchange transactions , cross-border flows, and exchange control regulations. Advise internal stakeholders and clients on FX controls, regulatory implications , and structuring of cross-border payments in compliance with SARB regulations. Support the execution of FX trades aligned to risk, liquidity, and client requirements. Ensure accurate interpretation and application of BoP reporting standards across relevant transactions. Engage with the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) when required, ensuring timely submission and resolution of complex exchange control queries. Collaborate with Global Markets, Legal, Treasury, and Operations teams to deliver seamless FX and payment solutions. Monitor regulatory developments and drive internal awareness and readiness for changes in the exchange control environment . Support audits, internal risk reviews, and compliance initiatives related to FX transactions. Key Requirements: Strong working knowledge of FX markets and financial instruments . Deep understanding of South African Exchange Control regulations , including Circulars and the Currency & Exchanges Manual. Experience handling cross-border transactions and BoP classifications . Prior experience in banking, corporate treasury, or regulatory advisory with an FX or Exchange Control focus . Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills. Relevant degree in Finance, Economics, Law, or related field. Experience interacting with SARB and navigating FX approval processes is a strong advantage.
