Job Summary
Leadership and Management:
Direct and manage the engineering team, fostering a culture of problem solving, focussed improvement, collaboration and high performance. Mentor and develop team members, ensuring optimal engagement and professional growth.
Strategic Planning:
Develop and implement engineering strategies that align with the company’s business goals and World Class Manufacturing, focusing on maximizing efficiency, reducing costs and enhancing product quality.
Project Management:
Compile and manage the annual Capex and Renewal budget and maintain the 5-year plan. Manage assets under construction and produce monthly Capex cost reports. Oversee the planning, execution and delivery of engineering projects. Ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget and to specification.
Maintenance and Reliability:
Lead the maintenance operations to ensure reliability and availability of all manufacturing equipment and infrastructure. Utilize recognized problem-solving techniques and implement proactive maintenance practises to minimize downtime and improve operational efficiency. Develop and manage the maintenance budget to ensure equipment availability at lowest cost.
Innovation and Improvement:
Drive initiatives to optimize maintenance processes through technological innovation and process re-engineering. Champion the adoption of new technologies and Lean Manufacturing principles.
Compliance & Safety:
Manage the Risk Department to ensure compliance with the OHSAct and its Regulations as well as internal- and Group rules and standards. Drive implementation of safe practises and creation of a safe working environment for all employees.
Operational Management:
Manage the boilers to ensure a reliable supply of steam at best efficiency and cost.
Liaise with Eskom to limit the impact of electricity supply interruptions and ensure local power supply infrastructure is maintained.
Oversight and accountability for the support services – Condition Monitoring, Boilermaker Workshop, Fitting and Roll Services Workshop, Roll Grinding, Electrical and Instrument Support.
Oversee the Stores function to prevent out of stock situations while keeping stock holding at acceptable levels. Ensure that rotables are managed and controlled.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering ((Mechanical, Electrical (Heavy Current)).
- Government Certificate of Competency Factories (Mechanical or Electrical).
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience, post qualification, in an engineering management role within the manufacturing industry.
- Paper mill and OCC pulp mill experience could be an advantage
