Job Description

Description:
Installation & Commissioning

  • Install and configure computer hardware, servers, routers, switches, access points, and peripheral devices
  • Install structured network cabling (CAT5e / CAT6), patch panels, and wall points
  • Mount and install network cabinets, racks, and related infrastructure
  • Configure and test network connectivity (LAN/WAN/Wi-Fi)
  • Install and configure printers, scanners, VoIP phones, and CCTV systems (where applicable)

Software & Systems Setup

  • Install and configure operating systems and standard business software
  • Assist with email, user account, and basic server setup
  • Ensure systems are tested and fully operational before handover

Troubleshooting & Support

  • Diagnose and resolve installation-related faults
  • Provide basic post-installation support and user guidance
  • Escalate complex technical issues to senior technicians or engineers

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Comply with all company and site-specific Health & Safety requirements
  • Ensure installations meet industry standards and client specifications
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment on-site

Documentation & Administration

  • Complete installation checklists and job cards
  • Update network diagrams and basic technical documentation
  • Manage tools, equipment, and installation materials
  • Provide feedback and reports on completed installations

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Relevant IT / Networking qualification or certification (A+, N+, IT Support, or similar)
  • 1–3 years’ experience in an IT installation or technical field role
  • Valid driver’s licence
  • Willingness to travel and work on client sites

 
Technical Skills

  • Hardware installation and configuration
  • Structured cabling and basic networking
  • Familiarity with routers, switches, and Wi-Fi access points
  • Basic understanding of TCP/IP, DHCP, and DNS
  • Experience with CCTV, access control, or VoIP (advantageous)

 
Soft Skills & Competencies

  • Strong problem-solving and fault-finding ability
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • High attention to detail and workmanship
  • Physically fit for installation work
