About the Role

Avril Elizabeth Home is seeking a skilled and experienced seamstress and laundry assistant to join our team. As a key member of our care team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the well-being and comfort of our residents. With your expertise in sewing and laundry, you will be responsible for altering and repairing clothing, cutting and sewing fabrics, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace.

Key Responsibilities

• Alter and repair clothing of residents
• Cut and sew fabrics (wheelchair and chair fabric)
• Maintain a clean workplace and ensure all equipment is in good working order
• Good communication skills to communicate with supervisors and care workers regarding the need for services
• Ordering of name tags and sewing on to residents’ clothing
• Receiving and checking of daily laundry from various sections
• Help with sorting of daily laundry for washing
• Ironing and folding of washed clothing
• Sorting washed laundry into sections

Requirements

• Fluency in English
• Knowledge of all aspects of sewing
• Ability to work under pressure
• Problem solving
• Initiative
• Able to work with minimal supervision
• Competent all rounder also being able to work individually and in groups
• Minimum of 2 years working as a seamstress
• Previous working experience and references

Qualifications

• Matric or Grade 12
