About the Role

Hire Resolve’s client in Johannesburg is seeking a talented and driven Team Lead Data Scientist to lead their data team and help them deliver innovative solutions using AI, data science, and machine learning. As a Team Lead Data Science, you will be responsible for managing the team, overseeing projects, ensuring high-quality standards, and collaborating with other teams and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead a team of data scientists and ensure they have the necessary resources, guidance, and support to succeed.
• Set clear performance expectations, conduct regular performance evaluations, and provide ongoing coaching and professional development opportunities.
• Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture, promoting knowledge sharing and continuous learning.
• Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of data science projects, ensuring timely and successful delivery.
• Define project goals, requirements, and milestones in collaboration with stakeholders and project managers.
• Apply advanced data science techniques (e.g., statistical analysis, machine learning, predictive modeling) to solve complex business problems and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in data science, machine learning, and analytics techniques to continuously enhance team’s capabilities.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members, assisting them in solving complex technical challenges.

Requirements

• BSc (Comp Sci) (completed) or BEng (completed) or higher qualification of relevance.
• Other STEM degrees from established Universities (Computers, Math, Stats, IT or BCom – IT) might be considered given relevant minimum experience.
• Minimum 4+ years hands-on experience.
• Proficiency in MS Office
• Python (essential), Java or C# (optional)
• AIOAps, Generative models such as LLMs (highly desirable)
• MS Azure
• Unit and integration testing frameworks, Model performance monitoring and logging tool
• Statistical techniques and hypothesis testing, University level mathematics
• Ability to work in a team and individually
• Continuous self-learning and self-improvement
