Job Description

The Head of Sales & Supply Chain Operations is responsible for leading the strategic planning, execution, and management of sales and supply chain operations to achieve revenue growth, profitability, and market expansion objectives. This role oversees end-to-end sales performance, procurement, inventory, logistics, and supplier management while fostering strong customer relationships and cross-functional collaboration. The incumbent will build and lead high-performing sales and supply chain teams, ensure compliance with quality and governance standards, and deliver value-added engineering and supply chain solutions in a dynamic, competitive environment. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Business Management Revenue & Financial Performance Manage and grow a revenue portfolio of approximately R500 million. Assume full Profit & Loss (P&L) accountability, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance monitoring. Drive sustainable revenue growth and margin improvement aligned with organisational objectives. Identify and evaluate new market opportunities and cross-business collaboration initiatives. Prepare and present regular performance reports and business reviews to executive leadership. Strategic Planning & Execution Develop and implement business unit strategies aligned with overall corporate vision and growth objectives. Translate strategic objectives into operational plans with clearly defined KPIs. Monitor performance against strategic targets and implement corrective actions where required. Develop detailed customer business plans and long-term growth strategies. Assess the operational and workforce impact of strategic decisions. Market Development & Industry Representation Ensure effective market representation of suppliers, technologies, and solutions. Build and maintain strong internal and external stakeholder networks. Stay abreast of electronic components, ICT, and supply chain industry trends. Identify competitive threats, market shifts, and growth opportunities. Sales Management Customer Relationship Management Grow and protect market share through strong customer engagement and relationship management. Build and sustain long-term, value-driven customer partnerships. Develop and execute detailed customer account plans. Drive customer-focused solutions and service excellence. Sales Team Leadership Build, lead, and develop a high-performing sales team. Set individual performance targets and manage results through structured performance reviews. Provide coaching, mentoring, and development opportunities. Drive cross-sell and upsell opportunities across business units. Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. Lead and support change management initiatives. Supply Chain & Procurement Management Vendor & Supplier Management Lead strategic relationships with principal vendors and suppliers. Negotiate pricing, procurement terms, and inventory agreements. Evaluate supplier performance and ensure service-level compliance. Ensure SLAs are established, monitored, and regularly reviewed. Inventory & Stock Management Oversee procurement, allocation, and logistics of electronic components. Manage inventory levels to meet service targets while optimising working capital. Monitor slow-moving, excess, dormant, and redundant stock. Conduct daily inventory checks and approve purchase orders. Ensure purchase orders align with confirmed customer demand and backorders. Logistics & Operations Oversee inbound freight, delivery performance, and Incoterms compliance. Coordinate logistics with expeditors and freight forwarders. Manage ship-and-debit processes and non-conformances. Collaborate with sales, engineering, and asset teams to maintain optimal stock profiles. People Leadership Lead and develop procurement, inventory control, and logistics teams. Define clear roles, responsibilities, and performance objectives. Build technical capability in procurement negotiation, inventory optimisation, and supplier management. Promote knowledge sharing, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Support business transformation through effective change leadership. Governance, Risk & Compliance Quality & Compliance Ensure adherence to ISO 9001:2015 standards. Maintain compliance with internal governance frameworks through audits and reviews. Uphold the highest ethical standards across all operations. Ensure compliance with occupational health, safety, and environmental requirements. Develop and enforce business unit policies and standard operating procedures. Risk Management Identify, monitor, and mitigate operational and commercial risks. Lead improvement initiatives that enhance profitability and reduce exposure. Benchmark operational performance against industry standards. Ensure effective governance, reporting, and control frameworks are in place. Key Performance Indicators Revenue performance against a ±R500 million target. Gross margin and profitability. Customer retention, satisfaction, and market share growth. New business development. Inventory turnover, accuracy, and working capital efficiency. Supplier performance and cost optimisation. Team performance and employee engagement. Audit, compliance, and governance outcomes. On-time delivery and service-level performance. Key Requirements Qualifications BCom Degree in Business Management or related field. National Higher Diploma in Electronics (Light Current) or equivalent technical qualification. Experience Essential 1015 years progressive experience in sales and business development. Minimum 10 years experience in electronic components or electronics solutions. At least 5 years in a senior sales or commercial leadership role. Proven experience in supply chain management, procurement, and inventory control. Demonstrated success managing revenue portfolios exceeding R500 million. Strong P&L ownership and budget management experience. Ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on execution. Comfortable operating in fast-paced, resource-constrained environments. Advantageous ISO 9001 implementation or audit experience. Experience in distribution or component supplier environments. ERP system proficiency (e.g., Syspro). Advanced Excel skills for sales and inventory analysis. CRM experience and familiarity with supply chain analytics tools.
