About the Role

The Security Engineer role is a critical position within our organization’s banking and finance environment, responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining security solutions to safeguard information assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will work onsite within the Johannesburg Metro area, collaborating closely with internal teams to enhance the organization’s overall security posture.

Key Responsibilities

Design, deploy and manage security infrastructure including firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, endpoint protection, and encryption technologies.
Conduct security risk assessments and vulnerability analyses to identify weaknesses and implement appropriate controls.
Monitor security alerts, logs and events, investigate anomalies, and respond to incidents in a timely and effective manner.
Maintain and update security policies, standards and procedures to reflect the current threat landscape and regulatory requirements.
Lead the implementation of new security tools and technologies to improve security effectiveness and efficiency.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure security requirements are integrated into system designs and business processes.
Provide technical guidance and support during security audits and compliance reviews.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and industry best practices in information security.
Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning as it relates to information security.

Requirements

Relevant professional certification in information security or network security (e.g., Certified Information Systems Security Professional, Certified Ethical Hacker).
Proven experience in security engineering within the banking or financial services sector.
Education: A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline is essential.
