Johannesburg: Workshop Manager Automotive Gearbox Company – Johannesburg

Responsibilities: Manage and supervise workshop operations and personnel, including mechanics, technicians, and apprentices Plan, allocate, and oversee daily workloads to ensure efficient use of workshop resources Provide technical guidance and solutions to diagnostic and mechanical issues Oversee gearbox bench work, including stripping, assessment, repair, and assembly of gearboxes Conduct diagnostics on vehicles and gearboxes using appropriate tools and equipment Ensure quality control on all completed work before delivery to clients Implement and maintain safety, housekeeping, and compliance standards within the workshop Manage workflow, job cards, and timekeeping to ensure productivity and accurate billing Liaise with customers, suppliers, and management regarding technical issues, estimates, and timelines Identify training and development needs for workshop staff Monitor workshop expenses and assist with budgeting and cost control Requirements: 510 years experience in the motor industry in the role of Workshop Manager (essential) Proven experience in gearbox bench work and rebuilds (manual and/or automatic) Strong technical background in truck and vehicle diagnostics Previous experience managing a workshop or leading a team of technicians Mechanical Trade Test qualification (Motor Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic, or equivalent) Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills Good communication and interpersonal skills Computer literacy ability to manage job cards and reporting systems Motor Industry experience Essential Key Competencies: Leadership and team management Technical proficiency in gearbox systems and diagnostics Attention to detail and quality assurance Organised and process-driven Customer-focused approach Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines Advantages / Beneficial: Experience with both light and heavy-duty vehicles Exposure to automatic and manual gearbox systems Familiarity with diagnostic software and tools Please note only candidates with the required experience will be contacted and considered.
