Job Description
Our client is looking for an experienced CA(SA) or PA(SA) accounting professional to lead a small team and act as the main point of contact for a portfolio of clients. You will oversee day-to-day practice work, deliver accurate financial information, and provide pragmatic business and tax advice.
Main responsibilities
People management and development
Supervise and coach a team of accounting staff, allocate work, support training and career growth, and handle performance reviews.
Client relationships and advisory
Run client meetings, provide practical accounting and business advice, and be the dedicated accounting contact for your assigned clients.
Reporting, budgets and compliance
Oversee preparation and review of management accounts, annual financial statements, budgets and cash flow forecasts. Ensure all outputs meet the applicable standards, including IFRS for SMEs.
Bookkeeping and reconciliations
Ensure timely and accurate recording of bank transactions, monthly reconciliations, VAT submissions and general accounting records.
Tax filings and guidance
Manage income tax and provisional tax returns for individuals and companies through Mints tax service. Supervise trust tax filings and advise clients on tax structuring and compliance matters.
Estate-related support (optional)
Where needed, provide assistance on deceased estate accounting and related tax issues. This is useful but not essential.
Standards and controls
Maintain high quality in all financial deliverables, with strong attention to accuracy and deadlines.
External relationships
Coordinate with SARS, external auditors, legal advisors and other third parties as required.
Requirements
Qualifications
Registered CA(SA) or PA(SA)
Experience
Minimum 3 to 5 years post Articles experience, including at least 2 to 3 years in a supervisory or management position.
Technical skills
Solid understanding of South African accounting and tax rules for companies, individuals and trusts. Experience preparing financial statements, performing reconciliations and applying reporting standards such as IFRS for SMEs.
Client focus
Comfortable delivering clear, practical advice in a professional and approachable manner.
Systems and tools
Advanced Excel skills. Hands-on experience with accounting and payroll systems such as Pastel, QuickBooks, GreatSoft, Sage and SimplePay.
