Tool Selection: Understanding cutting tools, inserts, and speeds/feeds for different materials. Blueprint Reading: Ability to interpret technical drawings, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), and work instructions. Precision Measurement: Use of Calipers, Micrometres, Dial indicators, and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM). Material Knowledge: Understanding different metals (steel, aluminium, brass, etc.) and their machining characteristics. Cutting Parameters: Setting correct speeds, feeds, and depths of cut for efficient machining. Surface Finish & Tolerances: Achieving precise tolerances and surface finishes as per specifications. Troubleshooting: Diagnosing machine malfunctions, tool wear, or workpiece deviations. Process Optimization: Improving machining efficiency while maintaining quality. Mathematical Skills: Performing calculations for dimensions, cutting speeds, and machining allowances. Machine Maintenance: Routine checks, lubrication, and troubleshooting minor mechanical issues.
