Job Description

  1. Purpose of the Role

The Logistics & Asset Business Unit Manager is responsible for the strategic, operational, and financial management of the company’s logistics, warehousing, fleet, and movable asset operations across all project sites. The role ensures that all construction, mining, and engineering sites are supported with well-maintained equipment, tools, vehicles, PPE, and site-establishment assets in a timely, cost-effective, and controlled manner. The manager is accountable for developing systems, ensuring compliance, controlling costs, and reporting performance to the Executive.

2.  Key Responsibility Areas (KRAs)

A.  Logistics Facility & Warehousing Management

  1. Oversee the operation of the central logistics facility, ensuring efficient receiving, storage, dispatch, and return of company assets and tools.
  2. Maintain optimal warehouse layouts, storage systems, and material-handling processes for all classes of assets.
  3. Implement procedures for asset issuing, returns, repair cycles, quarantine of damaged items, and end-of-life disposal.
  4. Ensure efficient movement of materials, tools, consumables, and equipment between the logistics facility and all operational sites.
  5. Implement and enforce safety, housekeeping, and environmental standards across all logistics and warehousing operations.

B.  Movable Asset Management (Large Construction & Mining Equipment)

  1. Manage the full lifecycle of heavy equipment including front-end loaders, haul trucks, excavators, graders, rollers, bulldozers, and other earthmoving
  2. Establish and maintain systems for asset tracking, utilisation reporting, maintenance scheduling, and condition assessments.
  3. Work closely with Project management to coordinate equipment allocation to projects based on project needs, operational plans, and availability.
  4. Work closely with maintenance and engineering OEM’s and Contractors to plan maintenance downtime, repairs, service intervals, and component
  5. Ensure consistent application of fleet-use policies, accident reporting procedures, and preventative maintenance programs.

C.  Tools, Rigging Equipment & Construction Support Assets

  1. Manage all hand tools, power tools, rigging equipment, welding equipment, HOPE and steel pipe installation tools, jacking equipment, and specialised construction tools.
  2. Implement and optimize tool issuing and tracking systems to reduce shrinkage, theft, loss, and downtime.
  3. Oversee certification, load testing, calibration, and maintenance of rigging and lifting
  4. Maintain inventory levels to meet project demands while ensuring cost control and optimal
  5. Manage repair workshops, refurbishment processes, and replacement

D.  Site Establishment & Temporary Facilities Management

  1. Oversee the procurement, storage, maintenance, and dispatch of site establishment assets including office containers, stores containers, ablutions, furniture, and office equipment.
  2. Develop standardised site-establishment packages for rapid mobilisation of new

  4. Ensure all site facilities meet company operational and safety

E. Fleet Management

  1. Manage the company’s full vehicle fleet including delivery trucks, LDVs, underground transport vehicles, personnel carriers, and management vehicles.
  2. Implement systems for vehicle allocation, tracking, fuel management, servicing, repairs, and roadworthiness.
  3. Oversee licensing, registration renewals, insurance claims, and fleet compliance with mine and legal standards.

F. PPE Procurement, Storage & Distribution

  1. Forecast, procure, and maintain adequate strategic PPE stock levels for all employees across all projects.
  2. Implement, in conjunction with project managers, controlled issuing processes to ensure accurate distribution, traceability, and cost allocation.
  3. Manage quality control of PPE to comply with company, industry, and safety
  4. Identify opportunities for cost-saving, supplier rationalisation, and standardisation of PPE

G.  Systems Development, Compliance & Process Management

  1. Develop and implement integrated asset, fleet, tool, and logistics management systems aligned with best practice and operational needs.
  2. Draft and enforce procedures, SOPs, work instructions, and controls for all logistics and asset management activities.
  3. Ensure compliance with mine requirements, industry regulations, SHEQ policies, and company governance.
  4. Maintain accurate databases, registers, serialised tracking systems, and documentation for all assets and inventory (Keridge)
  5. Oversee audits of assets, stock, procedures, safety standards, and regulatory

H.   Financial, Cost & Performance Management

  1. Optimise cost centres and budget requirements for the Logistics & Asset Business Unit.
  2. Monitor operating expenses including maintenance costs, fuel, spares, repairs, depreciation, PPE consumption, and asset replacement.
  3. Report on monthly cost performance, variances, asset utilisation, and operational KPls to the CEO and Executive.
  4. Identify opportunities for efficiency improvement, cost optimisation, and reduction of downtime.
  5. Conduct financial analyses to determine viability of new asset acquisitions, storage expansions, staffing requirements, and technology

I.       Human Resources & Departmental Leadership

  1. Identify departmental staffing requirements and participate in recruitment, onboarding, and training processes.
  2. Provide leadership, supervision, and performance management of logistics, stores, drivers, rigging/toolroom, and admin staff.
  3. Develop a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement within the department.
  4. Ensure staff competence, certification, and compliance with operational, safety, and mine standards.

J.        Strategic Planning & Continuous Improvement

  1. Develop long-term strategies for asset lifecycle management, fleet expansion, warehousing growth, and process optimisation.
  2. Implement digital tracking and reporting technologies where appropriate (RFID, barcoding, fleet telematics, logistics software).
  3. Identify operational risks and propose mitigation strategies to support project execution and company growth.
  4. Support tendering and estimating teams with accurate equipment rates, availability forecasts, and logistics input.

3.  Reporting & Accountability

  1. Report directly to the CEO and Executive
  2. Submit monthly reports covering asset utilisation, cost performance, fleet status, warehousing KPls, PPE usage, and

4.  Authority & Decision-Making Powers
