About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Junior Sommelier to join our team at Craven Cottage CC in the North West region. As a key member of our hospitality team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional wine service to our guests, maintaining our extensive wine list, and contributing to the overall success of our establishment.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet guests, answer questions about the wine list, and provide recommendations for wines that complement their meal and personal taste.
- Open, decant, and serve wine correctly, ensuring a high level of service during meals and events.
- Maintain and update the wine list, keeping it current with vintage, region, and style information.
- Monitor stock levels, assist with deliveries, rotate stock, and conduct regular inventory and cellar checks.
- Educate and train other front-of-house staff on wine, service standards, and food and wine pairing.
- Develop relationships with wine vendors and may assist with ordering and negotiations.
- Help with administrative tasks like tracking invoices and maintaining accurate records.
- Assist in creating and implementing wine-related promotions and events.
Requirements
- Grade 12
- WSET Level 1/2 or equivalent
- At least 2+ years previous experience in a fine-dining or hospitality setting
- A fundamental understanding of wine varieties, regions, and styles
- The South African Sommelier Association Certificate will be an advantage
- Familiarity with beverage inventory systems is beneficial.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills are essential for interacting with guests and making recommendations.
