About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Chemist to join our team in Pinetown, responsible for assisting with research and development of new products while maintaining and enhancing existing products. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in solvent and water-based adhesive technology and excellent problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and Development: researching, developing, and analyzing new products and processes in accordance with specific development briefs
- Developing SOPs for new products
- Timely update of relevant documentation including raw material specifications, formulations, manufacturing procedures, finished product specifications, and quality standards
- Sourcing and evaluating new or alternative raw materials for product development
- Assisting with QC laboratory when required
- Implementing quality controls within the mixing department and ensuring staff adhere to quality controls
- Running of the QC laboratory, including maintenance of all equipment
- Offering technical support to customers, mixing & sales departments
- Sourcing and evaluating new or alternative raw materials for product enhancement or material substitution
- Conforming to implemented ISO 9001:2015 and HSE systems
- Assisting with the implementation of KPIs and other Quality Indicators; providing required training of existing or new staff
Requirements
- Excellent time management and ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving ability
- Attention to detail
- Minimum 5 years experience within the Adhesive industry is essential
- Must have solvent and water-based adhesive technology experience
- Must be hands-on in the laboratory
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in BSc or HND or equivalent Chemistry degree is essential
