Responsibilities:
Planning Developing comprehensive project plans, including timelines, resource allocations and procurement strategies Coordinating and overseeing construction activities, ensuring adherence to project schedules and specifications Overseeing the logistical requirements of projects Setting targets, objectives and responsibilities for all supervised staff and contractors Regularly reviewing timings, budget, labour, risk and project plans to ensure work stays on track Setting and agreeing on budgets Choosing tools, materials and processes to use in the construction project and tracking the inventory of those items Conducting an in-depth analysis of the project to develop the most accurate budget and deliverables Identifying, managing and mitigating risk factors to ensure the project is in accordance with the expected standards Managing construction project documentation, including contracts, permits, drawings and change orders Monitoring and reporting on the budget and timeline of the project Management of staff Evaluating and selecting contractors and subcontractors based on qualifications, experience and cost-effectiveness Keeping daily employee logs and monitoring the conduct of Construction Workers and Contractors Ensuring excellent discipline amongst the workforce and team Providing leadership and guidance to the project team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment Delegating work to colleagues within your team Client relations and liaison Conducting regular meetings to facilitate communication, address challenges and to meet project objectives Providing regular updates and reports on project status, including milestones, budget updates and any significant developments or risks Dealing with contracts and mitigating the impact of any issues Working closely with Architects, Engineers, Contractors and clients to establish the requirements for the construction project Quality and legislation compliance Conducting site visits to inspect work, check materials and ensure staff are following health and safety guidelines Implementing and enforcing safety protocols and ensuring compliance with local building codes and regulations Carrying out project evaluations and assessments to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary corrective measures Monitoring project progress, tracking key performance indicators (KPI) and report on project status to stakeholders Ensuring compliance with safety regulations and legal requirements, prioritising a safe working environment for all involved Ensuring the delivery of high-quality work within contract timescales Overseeing the construction process for buildings, bridges, roads and other structures. Ensuring that the construction project complies with all safety and building regulations Working with local authorities to obtain licenses and permits for the project Inherent requirements for the position: High proficiency in MS Projects Proficiency in project administration Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, building codes and safety regulations in the South African context Excellent time management skills Excellent project management skills, including effective planning, organising and prioritising tasks Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical documents, including project drawings and specifications Solid grasp of construction methods, building compliance and safety regulations Knowledge of basic accounting procedures including the making of financial projections and the creation of budgets Working knowledge and experience with legal documentation Experience with IT and Mathematics Strong leadership skills- including excellent delegation and staff management Business management skills Familiarity with sustainable construction practices Proficiency in construction management software, project scheduling tools and cost estimation software Excellent communication (verbal, written and technical) Excellent problem-solving skills Analytical thinking Excellent reporting skills Knowledge of project management software Understanding of contractual conditions and relevant industry regulations Excellent attention to detail Ability to work well under pressure Strong interpersonal skills Familiarity with FIDIC forms of Contract Shortlisted candidates will be expected to undergo psychometric testing and background screening.
