In this role, you will:
- Supervise and support tax department staff in managing their workloads and ensuring the quality and timeliness of deliverables.
- Assist in the preparation, review, and submission of complex Income Tax and Provisional Tax returns for individuals and companies.
- Oversee SARS-related correspondence, including assessments, objections, appeals, and Tax Ombud complaints.
- Liaise directly with SARS to resolve complex queries and schedule appointments.
- Provide technical guidance and advice to compliance officers on tax administration and legislation.
- Support the Tax Manager with dispute resolution, Tax Exemption applications, and compliance reviews.
- Review tax calculations and ensure adherence to relevant legislation, including the Income Tax Act, Tax Administration Act, and VAT Act.
- Manage refund lists, payment tracking, and other financial follow-ups with clients.
- Facilitate the training and development of SAIT learners and ensure effective transfer of knowledge within the team.
- Contribute to monthly reporting, progress tracking, and continuous improvement initiatives within the Tax Department.
- Ensure compliance with the firm’s System of Quality Management (SOQM), policies, and professional codes of conduct.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 with Accounting as a subject.
- Relevant Tax or Accounting qualification with at least 5 years’ experience in a tax environment.
- Registered Tax Practitioner or eligible for registration.
- Proven experience liaising with SARS and managing tax compliance processes.
- Strong understanding of tax legislation and dispute resolution procedures.
Skills and Competencies
- Excellent communication, leadership, and client service skills.
- Strong numerical accuracy, attention to detail, and analytical ability.
- Ability to interpret and apply complex tax laws with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SARS eFiling, and GreatSoft.
- Working knowledge of LexisNexis (advantageous).
- Reliable, organized, and capable of managing multiple deadlines effectively.
