About the Role

Hire Resolve’s client in the engineering industry is urgently seeking a Fire Engineer with expertise in designing fire protection systems for various building types. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safety of people and property in Durban, KZN.

Key Responsibilities

  • Designing fire protection systems (e.g., sprinklers, fire alarms, smoke control) for various building types.
  • Conducting fire risk assessments and developing fire safety strategies.
  • Interpreting and applying fire safety codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., SANS 10400 Part T).
  • Performing fire modelling and simulations to assess fire behaviour and evaluate design effectiveness.
  • Reviewing architectural plans and specifications to ensure compliance with fire safety requirements.
  • Preparing technical reports, drawings, and specifications for fire protection systems.
  • Collaborating with architects, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and other stakeholders.
  • Inspecting existing buildings and fire protection systems to identify deficiencies and recommend solutions.
  • Managing fire safety projects from concept to completion.
  • Providing expert advice on fire safety matters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fire Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Professional registration with ECSA (Pr. Eng or Pr. Tech Eng) highly preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in fire safety design, consulting, and risk assessment.
  • Experience applying SANS, especially SANS 10400 Part T.
  • Proficiency in fire modelling software (e.g., FDS, CFAST).
  • Strong understanding of hydraulics for sprinkler system design.
  • Competence in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit).
  • In-depth knowledge of South African National Building Regulations and Building Standards Act, and SANS codes.
