Job Summary
Main purpose of the job:
- To provide leadership and expertise in comprehensive clinical management of people living with HIV, with a focus on those with complex and advanced clinical disease, and supported by ACC Doctor and facility teams, within designated hospitals and clinics
- Serve as the team lead for the allocated facility
Location:
- Tshwane (Pretoria)
Key performance areas:
- Together with the ACC doctor, DoH and hospital/clinic management, support the delivery or referral for comprehensive, high quality, clinical services for people living with HIV including, but not limited to:
- Management of ART treatment failure
- Management of HIV Opportunistic infections
- Management of treatment complications
- Management of advanced clinical disease
- Clinical Case Discussions
- Ward rounds
- Provide comprehensive clinical care and support to patients at the designated hospital or clinic through direct service delivery
- Contribute to the analysis of programmatic data of the hospital to identify gaps in clinical care, and progress towards targets
- Implement novel strategies to improve clinical services at the designated hospital
- Act as Wits RHIs first point of contact and team lead for the designated hospital on aspects relating to clinical care
- Support the management of activities of Wits RHI staff based at the designated hospital.
- Implement new treatment protocols and guidelines
- Provide clinical guidance and consultation for complex case management for advanced HIV disease in PHC facilities (including TB/HIV), supported by available trained ACC Champions and the ACC Technical Advisor
- Identify training needs for ACC in supported facilities and, in collaboration with the Technical Advisor for ACC and the Capacity Development unit, provide in-service training and mentorship support
- Conduct file audits and/or facility assessments to identify areas of support for improving the ACC program
- Support quality improvement for gaps identified in file audits and assessments to improve ACC program performance
- Facilitate dissemination of ACC tools, resources and the National Hotline contact information to improve access to clinical guidance for ACC case management
- Ensure dissemination of NHLS Results for Action reports for the targeted ACC facilities to both internal and external POCs for RfA management
- Monitor tracking, tracing and linkage of clients on RfA lists for the designated hospital by Wits RHI allocated staff
- Support clinical management and documentation of outcomes of activities implemented for Results for Action in the supported sites
- Compile monthly and quarterly reports of activities and disseminate to stakeholders
- Review and analyse key project indicators at designated support facilities on a regular basis
- Collaborate with the broader Gophelega team to monitor progress towards project targets
- Take ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrates effective self- management
- Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintained
- Apply project management methodology from project concept to completion
- Maintain a positive attitude and respond openly to feedback
- Take ownership for driving own career development by participating in on-going training and development activities such as forums, conferences, policy setting workshops, etc.
Required minimum education and training:
- BCMP Degree
- Diploma in HIV management
- Drivers license
Required minimum work experience:
- 5 years experience working within or supporting the public health sector
- 2-3 years experience in HIV management and management of complex or advanced clinical disease cases
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities:
- Confident in managing clinical care of HIV-infected patients
- Experience managing or identify need for referral of patients with HIV/TB, DR TB, advanced clinical disease, and opportunistic infections
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to navigate complicated situations
- Ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders
- Excellent levels of written and verbal communication
- Attention to detail and ability to problem solve
- Ability to communicate in other languages preferable in relation to the area
- Demonstrated leadership ability
Demands of the job:
- Able to work in highly demanding and pressurized environment
- Travelling may be required.
Communications and relationships:
- Develop and effectively manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders (Within relevant Wits RHI Structures, DoH)
