Job Description
- Degree in Accounting, Tax or Customs and Excise Law.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience within Logistics, Warehouse or Operations environment.
- Good knowledge of Customs & Excise and Road Traffic Act.
- Exports/International Trade knowledge and experience essential.
Key Performance Areas:
Report to the Packaging and Distribution Manager:
- Ensure compliance with all applicable Customs and Excise laws and regulations, particularly Excise Tax, Customs duties and Excise accounting.
- Monitor changes in Customs and Excise law and regulations and implement necessary adjustments to ensure compliance.
- Maintain all Customs and Excise licenses, registrations and Bonds.
- Ensure that monthly, quarterly or annual Customs and Excise reconciliations and declarations are performed and submitted to SARS.
- Ensure all required documentation and supporting records are maintained in line with Customs and Excise regulations.
- Manage Administrative staff responsible for Excise and Packaging & Distribution.
- Manage and co-ordinate all audits and queries by Customs and Excise.
- Identify and manage all excise risks.
- Perform audits on external third parties handling company cargo for compliance assurance.
- Continuously assess and enhance internal processes, systems and controls to ensure efficiency, accuracy and compliance to legislation.
- Conduct self-audits to ensure in-house compliance.
- Work with external Tax Consultants and Advisors as needed.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly Packaging & Distribution overhead reports for review by the P&D Manager.
- Promote and adhere to the company procedures, policies and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).
