About the Position:
The Head Field Guide is a senior role within a wildlife or nature reserve, responsible for leading a team of field guides, ensuring top-quality wildlife viewing experiences for guests, and maintaining safety standards. This role plays a vital part in staff training, conservation efforts, and guest relations, managing all guiding operations while serving as the primary expert on the local ecosystem and wildlife.

Responsibilities:

• Manage and oversee the guiding department, ensuring its smooth operation
• Supervise and discipline staff in the department
• Conduct staff training and development
• Collaborate with the Marketing team for social media content
• Handle all administrative duties within the department
• Allocate Rangers and Trackers to daily game drives
• Create staff schedules and rosters
• Manage daily game drives and bush walks
• Host guests and assist in various guest activities
• Help in other lodge departments as required
• Lead photographic safaris
• Perform stock control duties
• Compile weekly and monthly reports
• Manage departmental budget and comparisons

Requirements:

• Minimum 2-3 years experience in a Big 5 Game Reserve and Luxury Lodge
• Experience in wildlife photography is a plus
• First Aid certified
• Matric/Grade 12
• FGASA Level 2 Field Guide certification
• Trails Guide qualification
• Strong passion for wildlife
• Valid RSA Drivers License and PDP
• Firearm competency
• Excellent leadership skills
• Mature, responsible, and reliable
• Well-spoken, well-groomed, and presentable
• Ability to work under stress and handle problem analysis
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to create great guest experiences
• Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills

Salary:
Negotiable based on experience and qualifications

• 5% Provident Fund (compulsory membership)
• Medical aid available for individuals (company covers 50% for Classic Saver or below on Discovery)
