In considering candidates for appointment into the advertised posts, preference will be accorded to persons from a designated group in accordance with the approved Nelson Mandela University Employment Equity Plan. CORE PURPOSE OF JOB The incumbent will be required to: Develop and deliver Method of Mathematics modules at Intermediate Phase level. Design course curriculum, instructional materials, and assessment strategies that promote active learning and student engagement. Conduct research within the field of Mathematics teaching or related fields, leading to publications in peer- reviewed journals and presentations at conferences. Participate in academic administration, including serving on faculty committees, contributing to curriculum development, and assisting with accreditation processes. Engage in professional development activities to stay abreast of advancements in the teaching of Mathematics, Educational pedagogy in general, and research methodologies. Collaborate with colleagues within the department and across disciplines to promote interdisciplinary research and Educational initiatives. Represent the department and the faculty at academic conferences, workshops, and public events. Contribute to community outreach programmes and initiatives that promote Mathematics Education in local and regional communities. Mentor and evaluate students during School Based Learning. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS Facilitate learning, teaching, and assessment at undergraduate level. Conduct research and publish in peer-reviewed academic journals / academic platforms. Participate in academic and community engagements. Contribute to Faculty administration as required. Supervise postgraduate students. School Based Learning evaluation and mentoring CORE COMPETENCIES Demonstrate sound knowledge and expertise in Intermediate Phase Mathematical trends, theories, methodologies, and approaches. Ability to facilitate teaching, learning and assessment of Mathematics content to diverse cohorts of undergraduate students. Ability to develop curricula and teaching resources for the Method of Mathematics in the Intermediate Phase. Proficiently navigate and utilise the Moodle Learning Management Systems (LMS) to facilitate effective online teaching and learning experiences. This includes showing expertise in managing course materials and assessments within the LMS platform, as well as providing technical support to students. Conduct scholarly work with a focus on teaching Mathematics/ the method of Mathematics in the Intermediate phase. Possess effective communication skills (verbal and written), good facilitation, training, and presentation skills. REQUIREMENTS An M Ed in Mathematics Education qualification or equivalent master. A PhD in Education will be an added advantage. An undergraduate qualification in Intermediate Phase Education. At least two-years experience of teaching Mathematics at Intermediate Phase in the school context. Experience of working in a Higher Education context would be an added advantage. A Sound disciplinary and content knowledge of Mathematics at Intermediate Phase level. A Sound knowledge of various techniques for teaching Mathematics in the Intermediate Phase.
