About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced, physically fit, and proactive Senior Health and Safety Officer to oversee health, safety, and compliance across 9 factory sites in Meyerton. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience in health and safety management, be able to travel between locations, and ensure all factories maintain the highest safety standards while meeting industry and legal compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop & Enforce Safety Policies: Implement and maintain standardized health and safety policies across all 9 factory locations.
- Multi-Site Risk Assessments & Audits: Conduct comprehensive safety inspections, risk assessments, and compliance audits for each site.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all factories comply with local, national, and international health and safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001, NEBOSH standards).
- Incident Management & Investigation: Lead investigations of accidents, near misses, and unsafe practices, providing corrective action plans and ensuring preventive measures are in place.
- Training & Employee Engagement: Develop and conduct health and safety training programs for factory employees, managers, and supervisors to create a strong safety culture.
- Emergency Response & Crisis Management: Establish and oversee emergency response procedures, fire safety drills, and evacuation plans for all sites.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) & Safety Equipment: Ensure proper distribution, use, and maintenance of PPE and safety equipment across all factories.
- Monitoring & Reporting: Maintain accurate safety records, accident reports, and compliance documentation for internal audits and regulatory inspections.
- Travel & On-Site Supervision: Regularly visit each factory, ensuring consistent safety implementation and compliance with safety policies.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Liaise with factory managers, executives, government agencies, and external safety auditors to drive continuous safety improvement.
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 10 years in health and safety, with experience managing safety in a multi-site manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Certifications: Must have NEBOSH, OSHA, IOSH, or equivalent health and safety certification.
- Physical Fitness: Must be physically fit and able to conduct on-site inspections across multiple factories, including walking long distances, climbing stairs/ladders, and responding to emergencies.
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of factory safety regulations, machine safety, chemical handling, and fire safety protocols.
- Leadership & Communication: Ability to lead a team, train employees, and influence a positive safety culture.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, safety management software, and reporting tools.
- Travel Availability: Must be willing to travel frequently between factory locations.
